Both this starch, and the pectin found in bananas have been found to help keep blood sugar levels stable as they help to reduce appetite and suppress the emptying of the stomach so sugars in the bloodstream remain stable.

Bananas are also a fruit with a low/medium Glycaemic Index, which is an index used to measure how quickly foods are able to cause blood sugar levels to rise.

Because bananas are slow to digest, this means that blood sugar levels do not spike, and so insulin levels do not rise as a result.
