Science Confirms Turmeric as Active as 14 Drugs

People have been using turmeric in their dishes since long, and almost everyone is aware of the health benefits of turmeric. Turmeric is one of the most researched plants in history and has been used both as medicines and food.  According to 5-year long research at GreenMedln, turmeric carries over 600 potential preventives and 1745 distinct beneficial effects. A very substantial compound present in turmeric is curcumin which offers strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The researches showed that turmeric could be a replacement of many anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen.

Turmeric is a natural antiseptic and is useful in the disinfection of cuts and burns. It has shown to be effective in reducing the risk of leukemia and prevents the risk of Alzheimer disease. Almost 100 studies have revealed that curcumin can induce cell death, and sanitizes drug-resistant cancer cell. The track record of turmeric is very strong. It is a wonderful spice which is known for thousands of years and can be used both as food and medication.

Cholesterol medication

According to a study published in journal Drugs in R & D in 2008, the curcumin found in turmeric has miraculous healing properties. It can be used as a remedy for endothelial dysfunction. It helps to treat inflammation and oxidative stress in patients who have type 2 diabetes and other metabolic conditions.

Anti-inflammatory drug

Inflammation can be a cause of many diseases like heart issues or cancer. Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory properties due to the presence of curcumin. A study conducted in 2004 showed turmeric could replace anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen and sulindac due to its effectiveness against inflammation. Turmeric supports the body against many harmful foreign invaders.

Metformin

More stunning discoveries about turmeric were disclosed in a study conducted in 2009 and published in biochemical and biophysical research communities, according to which turmeric can help treat diabetes by suppressing gluconeogenic gene expression. Turmeric increases glucose uptake and suppresses its production in the liver of diabetic patients.

Blood thinner

Many blood-thinning drugs like aspirin can be replaced by turmeric due to its anti-platelet and prostacyclin modulating effects. Turmeric has the capabilities of treating patients inclined to blood clots. It is also effective in fighting tumor cells.

Antidepressant

According to a 2011 study, curcumin has shown to be effective in treating depression. It can replace psychotropic medicines like Prozac.

Anti-cancer properties

Turmeric shows operative activity against many types of cancer cells. It is a very beneficial herb in the treatment of cancer and prevents the occurrence of disease. It helps in killing cancerous cells and also reduces angiogenesis (growth of blood vessels in tumors). Studies have shown promising results of turmeric against cancer.

Antioxidant properties

Oxidation due to free radicals has harmful effects on the body. It is the reason behind skin ageing. Free radicals also react with organic substances and can even have a damaging effect on DNA.
