Is fatigue a symptom of PMS?

Is it normal to feel tired before a period? Yes. In fact, fatigue is one of the most ordinary PMS symptoms. So, although, it can be not convenient and annoying to feel zapped of energy shortly before your period, it’s completely normal.

Moreover, in most cases, feeling tired before your period is nothing to be worried about. Severe tiredness accompanied by certain emotions can be a sign of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a more severe form of PMS that often needs treatment.

In this article we will discuss on unfortunate situation in which PMS can cause severe fatigue. All signs and symptoms will be mentioned that are the necessary tool to examine. However, its cure is also described.

PMDD usually occurs about 7 to 10 days before a period and has many of the same symptoms as PMS. In addition to symptoms like fatigue, bloating, digestive issues, and headaches, people with PMDD have emotional symptoms, such as: crying spells ,anger ,sadness ,lack of interest in usual activities and relationships ,feeling out of control and irritability (1)

Fatigue is a cruel cycle for a lot of women around the time of their monthly periods. Shifting hormones make you tired, but they also disturb your sleep pattern. In fact, premenstrual syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome share many of the same symptoms. (2)

There are loads of normal factors that can affect your energy and alertness. Even occasional tiredness is normal. However, does your energy take a dip around your period? If so, you might be experiencing fatigue due to premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Many suffer from extreme fatigue before period and mistake it for despair, laziness, or social withdrawal. Don't put yourself down for feeling this way. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is an authentic disorder that can overpower the best of us. The fatigue that goes with it won't go away on its own, but there are habits to ease the symptoms.

The first thing you can surely do for yourself is to take some time away from everything and relax. Don't feel bad for not being active. If whatever thing, you are doing a lot for your health and long-term efficiency.

You don't have to continually be active, particularly around your period. Taking some time to restore and relax can be just what your body needs to stop fatigue symptom before or during period.  (3)

There are several etiological factors that can make the cause of sleep disturbances in women of childbearing age; one major cause is PMDD. Women who have this disorder could experience insomnia, depression, fatigue, headache, abdominal bloating, breast tenderness and severe dysmenorrhea.

These signs occur during the late luteal phase of a woman’s menstrual cycle and subside with the onset of menstruation. The lowered levels of progesterone metabolite and higher levels of progesterone could contribute to the symptoms of PMDD, including mood symptoms such as anxiety, depression and tension  (4)

Symptoms of PMS go down into various categories like Physical symptoms ,Bloating ,Breast tenderness ,Swelling of feet and ankles ,Fluid retention and weight gain ,Painful uterine cramps just before and during the first few days of menstruation ,Headaches ,Food cravings (especially for salty or sweet foods) ,Acne breakout, Low energy or fatigue ,Palpitations ,Dizziness ,Backaches or muscle pain.

 There are some other Psychological and emotional symptoms like Fatigue ,Mood swings ,Irritability ,Depression ,Aggressiveness or hostility ,Crying spells, Difficulty concentrating ,Increased appetite ,Forgetfulness and Changes in sexual desire

The exact symptoms of PMS vary from woman to woman. But the top three complaints are irritability, fatigue, and bloating. (5)Premenstrual dysphonic disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) characterized by mood changes, anxiety, and somatic symptoms experienced during the specific time of menstrual cycle (6)

Still feel like you could sleep for weeks on end when your period is around the corner? You're not the only one. Sleepiness and tiredness are some of the most common PMS symptoms that outbreak menstruating people today.

However, the fun certainly doesn't stop along PMS. Every third women deal with disturbed sleep patterns when they're menstruating, according to the National Sleep Foundation. If this sounds well-known, you know how irritating it can be to battle tiredness when you've got a million and one possessions to do.

A long or heavy period can also make you exhausted. "Periods lasting longer than seven days are considered abnormal bleeding and can make you feel exhausted, tired and even dizzy," Dr. Sherry Ross M.D., an OB/GYN, tells Bustle. Heavy flow of blood that create big blood clot can also  be the source of weariness, she says, as the body lose a lot of Fe in a short break of time.

You don't have to take it all lying down, though (although lying down just might be the answer sometimes). There are many diverse things you can do toward off the tiredness, and none of them are difficult.

 Of course, if you go through all the steps and still find that you're feeling particularly shattered most of the time, there might be an underlying issue you have yet to address, like anemia or a thyroid irregularity. (7)

Never Ignore Tiredness during Your Periods!

Feeling fatigued and tired is a common occurrence that can be a direct effect of excessive physical activity, lack of sleep, unhealthy eating habits, or a side effect of some types of medication. Even though most of these causes can be forbidden and avoided, sleepiness during the weeks leading up to (PMS) and during your period may be caused by an underlying health issue.

Many women experience from menorrhagia, which is more normally known as heavy periods. Around 1 in 3 women will seek treatment for the issue. If serious bleeding is interfering with your everyday life, you shouldn’t ignore it, as your body could be telling you there is something seriously wrong.

There is an Extreme weariness May Be an Underlying Medical Condition. Heavy menstrual bleeding repeatedly causes women to feel tired, which is normal due to the decrease in estrogen levels, which occurs around in your cycle.

Iron Deficiency Anemia. The most general cause of iron deficiency anemia is menorrhagia since there is often an important amount of blood beating. The symptom of iron deficiency anemia includes fatigue, pale skin, and shortness of breath and heart palpitations.

The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland found in the neck, the purpose of which is to make hormones to control the metabolism of your body naturally.

Some women that experience tremendous tiredness may find that they have an underactive thyroid that means your thyroid is not producing enough hormones. Symptoms include feeling exhausted and wanting to sleep all the time even if you have had a full ‘night’s rest.

There are some other common symptoms that include weight gain and feelings of depression. Around 15 in 1000, women in the UK will suffer from hypothyroidism. (8)
